SPPEEx Constitution

SPPEEx is an incorporated society formed in New Zealand

The objectives of SPPEEx are as follows:

1. The objectives of the Group shall be the advancement of the Maori and Pacific people in the engineering profession so one of the main focuses of this group will be to increase the number of Maori and Pacific engineers and engineering students and by supporting the professional development of our members.

2. Advancement of the status of professional engineers within Maori and Pacific communities.

3. Enabling the profession to assist these communities using the unique skills and knowledge that engineers possess.

4. Facilitating the transfer of indigenous technology and ideas into the mainstream.

5. The activities of the Group shall not be limited to within New Zealand.

6. SPPEEx sees the following activities as essential to achieving these objectives:

  • Promoting professional engineering to target communities through projects and research
  • Identifying and encouraging potential Maori and Pacific engineering students
  • Facilitating the establishment of scholarships for Maori and Pacific engineering students
  • Providing career mentoring to engineering students and recent graduates
  • Through research and seminars expose and promote indigenous technologies and practice
  • Develop networks amongst indigenous engineers of the Pacific and further abroad e.g. Native Americans engineers
  • Represent the position of indigenous engineers to IPENZ and the Tertiary Education Commission

7. The tangata whenua of each country have the power of veto over an intention or action of SPPEEx within their territorial jurisdiction to ensure that SPPEEx does not intentionally transgress the native and cultural principles of any place within the South Pacific. An AGM is held every year and meetings are held every month
