Futureintech Ambassador Visits

Several SPPEEX members are Futureintech Ambassadors. Two are Randall Ah Mu and Veronica Maka. They both recently visited Kowhai Intermediate School.

A primary motivator for SPPEEX involvement in this worthy IPENZ initiative is about promoting engineering and science as a viable career to young people in our communities. With low Maori and PI enrolments in all areas of engineering, it is essential that we get the message out that an education in engineering provides excellent job prospects combined with interesting and challenging work.

Randall Ah Mu from Modus Lighting and Veronica Maka from GHD spoke to Year 8 students as a follow up to the unit on electricity they had studied earlier. We expect they both did a fantastic job of showing the students how the learning they had done about electricity was used in their everyday jobs. It was no doubt fascinating to see the different types of work they’ve done following on from their Electrical Engineering degrees. It was a great first Futureintech presentation for the school and will hopefully result in more requests from them in the future.
